Emily Lyons

Welcome and congratulations! You are taking the very important and challenging first steps towards change and insight, and I applaud your accomplishment. My name is Emily and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Pennsylvania, currently based in Philadelphia. I recieved a master’s degree in Clinical-Counseling Psychology from LaSalle University (2014), and have trained and worked in outpatient, inpatient, and residential settings for the past seven years. Through these experiences I’ve had the privilege of serving individuals with challenges ranging from acute psychosis and mood variability, to those who are struggling to cope with a life transition. My areas of focus include, but are not limited to: trauma, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and LGBTQIA+ related issues. Through my experiences I have learned the power of empathy and human connection, and the importance of maintaining an open heart and open mind. In the world we are living in, it can be so difficult to find a safe space to let yourself feel vulnerable in, and it is my hope that our work together can be that space for you. In therapy I seek to create a non-judgmental and supportive space for you to learn to communicate, understand, and explore the unique concern that brings you here. I work from a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) core, but incorporate aspects of Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, and Psychodynamic approaches, based on the direction our work takes us. I also like to focus on psychoeducation, so that you can fully understand and use the tools you learn inside and outside of therapy. I look forward to working with you!
