Esther Mfonyam

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of North Carolina with 11 years of experience. I have worked in a variety of settings including schools, family shelters, community mental health agencies, health clinics and religious organizations since my graduation from Columbia International University in 2011. My expertise lies in working with children, women, families, couples and groups. As a therapist, I strongly believe that the quality of our lives are depended on the quality of our relationships. Our foundational relationship is our family of origin, which sets the pattern for the rest of our relationships. Our relationships with our significant others and close friends provide opportunities to rewrite dysfunctional family of origin patterns. The health of our relationships directly influences how we enjoy life’s successes as well as how we cope with life’s struggles and challenges. If our relationships are good, we feel well supported and can weather any storm that comes our way. The quality of our relationships impacts our mental, physical and spiritual health. My therapy approach is a combination of Attachment Theory, Family Systems Theory, Client Focused Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Experiential Therapy. These approaches guide my understanding in identifying problematic patterns in clients relationships with self, others and the world. These theoretical lenses also guide my treatment approaches.
