Janice Mahal

I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and have been in practice since 2013. I am originally from California and received my undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). I moved to Boston, MA in 2010 and earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Boston College. I spent 10 years living in Boston and worked at several Harvard hospitals in various clinical settings including: outpatient psychotherapy, inpatient psychiatry , and general-medicine inpatient units. Through professional work and lived experience, I developed a unique ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds and life stages. Additionally, through my experience as a hospital-based clinical social worker, I became particularly keen to the stressors that affect adults in high pressure jobs such as healthcare workers, academic roles, and individuals in leadership roles. I have transitioned to South Florida in 2020 and have continued my work as a therapist. I work with individuals affected by a range of issues including depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, family dynamic issues, relationship issues, racism and discrimination, geriatric/end of life issues, and parenting issues. I have worked with clients of all ages and backgrounds and am comfortable attending to the unique challenges that surface at different life stages. My overall therapeutic approach is integrative, with a focus on CBT as it can be applied in many settings. I strive to create an open environment where clients can speak freely about their struggles with the assurance that this information will be received with compassion. I am empathic, reflective, and non-judgmental, and focus on abilities and strengths as a tool for healing and empowerment. The goal of therapy is to empower you to become the best version of yourself through hard work and consistency, and I am confident that we can accomplish that together.
