Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) serving individuals living in Virginia. I am a graduate of Lynchburg College where I received my Master of Education in Counseling. I have had the honor of seeing the importance of mental health services while working with persons of all ages during the past 19 years in both home-based & outpatient settings. I have also experienced the value in pursuing professional help at various times in my own personal journey. My approach to counseling is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) including an assortment of different techniques and components such as: cognitive restructuring; problem-solving training; journaling; and relaxation training. Small, intentional habits can form the groundwork of valuable mental beliefs. I find it is helpful & important to add mindfulness approaches into CBT early. Consider that regardless of whether someone is experiencing depression, anxiety, grief &/or pain, etc. the underlying result is, most often, an individual having a fear of fully experiencing the aversive emotion/physical sensation with an extreme desire to escape from it. Learning to accept, improve and tolerate distress often requires help from someone who is warm, open, caring & empowering. My experience has prepared me to be such a therapist & I want to help you acquire skills to accept your unwanted emotions, as well as, how to improve your emotional experience.
