Laura McLaughlin, a caring professional with a background in counseling since 2005, welcomes you to her page. With a bachelors in social psychology from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN, and a masters in counseling psychology from Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA, Laura has a wide range of expertise. Starting her career in youth addiction counseling, child & family therapy, and attachment and trauma therapy, Laura’s current specialties focus on utilizing the intuitive eating approach and internal family systems to address eating disorders. She recognizes that many individuals who struggle with negative self-talk often have underlying trauma in their relationships, which can manifest in issues such as alcohol dependency, depression, sleep disturbance, and anxiety. Through therapy, Laura believes in helping her clients unpack these traumas and learn compassionate self-soothing techniques to break negative coping patterns. Drawing from her own experience of overcoming domestic violence and emotional narcissistic abuse, which led to a restrictive binge eating disorder, Laura empathizes with her clients and understands their struggles on a personal level. Additionally, as a child of divorced parents, she recognizes the attachment traumas from childhood that can lead to feelings of emptiness and codependent behavior.
