Maria De Lourdes Ornelas

My name is Lourdes and I have worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor(LPC) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in the State of Texas for the past 5 years. I have worked in diverse and multicultural settings with children, adolescents, adults, families, couples, State and Federal probation court mandated clients. I have provided treatment to persons with childhood adversities, sexual abuse, Attachment problems, ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, emotional distress, Bipolar, alcohol and substance abuse disorders. As a counselor, my personal philosophy is based on a Humanistic approach which focuses on YOU , the human-being and their positive aspects. I believe that people are essentially good, and that they are the authors of their own life. I believe in a narrative method of therapy because it separates a person from their problem. As a Counselor, my delivery is warm and interactive, as it includes traits connected to narrative and person-centered, such as curiosity, dignity, respect, and unconditional positive regard. Yet, I am also direct, which is often associated with therapeutic models very different from narrative therapy. I will strive to build a trustworthy rapport and encourage the client to draw their own conclusions and decide the path they want to take in resolving their issues. Finally, I am aware of my readiness to help is strong because I have made it an important part of my work to practice self-care and to not allow the challenges of this field diminish the passion that drove me to this work in the first place. Jointly, the client and the therapist will mutually set goals in order to achieve the desired outcome. You are the most important person in this relationship, let’s make it work.
