Maria uses a systemic and strengths-based approach in working with clients and the relationships they have in their lives. Using an integrative model of change, she highlights the strengths of different theories to fit the clientโs identified needs. She believes there are constraints in a clientโs life that impede his or her ability to identify and reach goals. Using this perspective, she is able to begin on a behavioral level to work on changes in action. Maria is a nurturing and direct therapist, embracing patience with the process of treatment and providing a safe and secure relationship with which clients can process their vulnerabilities. Maria is also excited to utilize animal-assisted therapy as a modality to help the healing process. Maria received her bachelorโs degree in Social Work from Michigan State University. She received her masterโs degree in Clinical Social Work from Michigan State University. She has training in crisis intervention, and clinical experience regarding manifestations of trauma in children and adults, and family relationships across generations. Maria has experience in trauma and substance abuse in inpatient, intensive outpatient and outpatient settings. She was worked with people that have chronic mental illness, physical impairments and vocational impairments in the private and public sector. She has supervised interns and offered consultation to new clinicians.
