Dr. Martin Tamkin

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 15 years of counseling and psychotherapy experience. Whether you want to achieve a specific short-term goal or desire more long-term life satisfaction overall, I look forward to helping you heal, learn, and grow. I have worked with individuals, couples, and families for more than a decade as a licensed provider in California and have practiced in Illinois and Nebraska. I also have six years of experience supervising counselors, psychotherapists, and social workers as well as two years of experience teaching psychology at a four year state university. I enjoy helping people develop their life skills, be empowered, understand themselves and others, and experience more happiness and contentment. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship between counselor and client is a key factor to positive change and is built by communicating non-judgmental empathetic understanding. I find that an integrated approach is useful overall and that some theoretical orientations work better for some people rather than others. I have experience in providing Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Feminist Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy. As I have experience using a variety of psychotherapy orientations and look at complex situations from multiple perspectives, I can help you choose which might be the best fit for you.
