About Sashay Goodletty's service

Hello! My name is Ms. Sashay Goodletty and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I received my counseling degree from Barry University (Miami, FL) and am qualified to counsel individuals, couples, and families. Over the past 7 years, I have provided therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and adults for a wide range of concerns, such as, depression, stress, grief, various traumas, school/work difficulties, conflict resolution, and issues that are unique to men and women of color. On this BetterHelp platform, I am only available to provide services to adult individuals. In addition to my professional identity, I am also a Christian! I am Christian counselor who provides mental health counseling from a sound Christian perspective. Contrary to popular and erroneous beliefs, Christians are not absolved from experiencing mental health concerns; nor are Christians sinning if they seek help in the form of counseling. The same way God blesses people with the skills and gifts to heal the sick (e.g., doctors), instruct student learners (e.g., teachers), and preach the Gospel (e.g., pastors), He also endowed individuals with special abilities to speak in ways that encourage positive change and healing through the use of evidenced-based practices (e.g., counselors/therapists). Scripture, prayer, and spiritual guidance are the backbone of my practice as a counselor. In addition to relying on the triune God, evidenced-based interventions are very important in my counseling approach and are appropriately and uniquely applied with each client. In this sense, God and science comfortably abide in the same space. As I walk alongside clients, I lean heavily on two counseling theories. The first is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT rests on the premise that thoughts significantly affect emotions and actions. As such, clients are encouraged to become aware of their thinking patterns–especially the negative onesโ€”and, when necessary, challenge and amend thinking patterns to create positive life transformations. The second theory is Narrative Therapy (NT). Essentially, this theory is about the stories people carry with them. While some stories are liberating, other stories rob clients of joy, freedom, and value. As such, the goal of Narrative Therapy is to encourage clients to rewrite the stories of their lives in such a way that births confidence, contentment, empowerment, and self-worth. During counseling sessions, clients have the FREEDOM to speak freely, cry, sit silently, question, yellโ€ฆall within a validating and supportive environment. Clients take a HUGE risk in inviting me into their lives and what an amazing honor this is! In turn, I provide honest feedback in an atmosphere filled with trust and respect.
