Teresa Blackburn

I am Teresa Blackburn, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I received a Master’s in Professional Counseling from Carlow University in Pittsburgh, PA. I have been working as a professional counselor since 2013. I have a few other special certifications: Reiki teacher, Emotion code practitioner, Emotional Freedom Therapy practitioner, and certified relationship coach. As a bonus, I am a certified Personal Trainer. I am a Christian. I am a member of the LGBTQ community. It is important to me that energy therapies like Reiki , Emotion Code and Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT) be utilized in conjunction with traditional psychotherapy when necessary. I came to this as a result of my own experience of having breakthroughs where I felt stuck for so long. Carl Jung is my favorite psychological theorist. “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” It is pertinent to your healing that you recognize unconscious patterns before you can change the behaviors. I address this by working with mind, body and spirit. I consider myself a holistic therapist. I specialize in a few areas, one of which is couples therapy. My extra relationship coaching certification has enabled me to understand relationship issues extensively. I also utilize Gottman techniques while working with couples. I believe that couples therapy is like a triangle. There are each individual at the bottom points and the relationship at the top. We must address our own individual issues in order to heal the relationship issues. I help people deal with their individual triggers so they can show up differently in their reponses to their partners. Another area in which I have experience is with the LGBTQ population. I have been a member of this community for 26 years. I can sympathize as well as empathize with the issues that we face. I have assisted several transgender clients with figuring out what they truly want to do with surgeries and how they would like to show up and be seen in the world. I also guide people through coming out, dealing with trauma and abuse due to their sexuality or gender, and through the questions phases. I can also help members of the LGBTQ population to reconnect spiritually, which I so often see them drift so far away from due to religious trauma. As an add-on to all of the above, I am a Christian who identifies as a liberal Catholic. I utilize works and workbooks from Fathers Richard Rohr and Thomas Merton. I can help you connect/ reconnect with your Creator and heal any traumas that religions, families, and schools may have caused you growing up. I was raised Catholic and went to all Catholic schools through college. I strayed away from organized religion due to being L of the LGBTQ. I thought I had to choose, God, or Gay. Turns out that is not true!! Events of life lead me back to Christ and the unconditional love that He has for us. I studied the origins of the language and specific words of the Bible and learned how differently it can be interpreted. I studied the lives of Theresa of Avila and St. Francisis. I am ready to help you to heal wounds around religion and find yourself in the arms of Christ.
